AZALA
Zaloa Fuertes

As time goes by, we keep on sheltering ourselves behind the many layers that hide us from ourselves and the world around us. Azala deals with the detachment of what we are supposed to be and shows the physical boundaries that exist between the intimate and the social, what we silent and judge or between the unusual and our everyday life. This series of photographs captures the most exposed and vulnerable side of ourselves, from the skin.

Zaloa Fuertes was born in Queretaro (Mexico) in 1983. In the year 2000, her parents gave her first reflex analogical camera with which she started to take photographs of the social situation of Mexico, her birth country. After moving to another country, from Mexico to Basque Country, and losing ten years of her photojournalist work in a suitcase, she decided to start from scratch and to concentrate on a more personal work. Her photo collections include Más allá de las ilusiones (Beyond the Illusions, Mexico, 2003), 06:04 (Mexico, 2004), and Ram Memoria (Basque Country, 2012).
